See DetailsWhether hot melt adhesive powder can directly contact human skin depends on its specific state and composition. In the solid state at room temperature, hot melt adhesive powder itself generally does not cause direct damage to the skin, but if its raw materials or processing contain industrial-grade ingredients (such as industrial gelatin extracted from leather waste), there may be a risk of heavy metal (chromium, lead, etc.) residues. Food-grade or medical-grade hot melt adhesive powders that meet environmental protection standards (such as EVA type and PA type) are usually non-toxic and non-volatile, but it should be noted that dust contact may cause allergic reactions or mild irritation. If the hot melt adhesive powder is in a molten state (after heating), direct contact with the skin must be avoided. At this time, the high-temperature adhesive liquid can cause scalds or even chemical burns, and a small amount of irritating gas may be released when it melts. For people with sensitive constitutions, even solid hot melt adhesive powder may cause allergic symptoms such as skin itching and redness due to individual differences. Therefore, it is recommended to wear gloves and keep the environment ventilated during operation. If you feel uncomfortable after contact, you need to wash it immediately and seek medical attention.
Medical hot melt adhesive powder has strictly passed cytotoxicity, skin irritation and allergy tests and can be safely used in medical products that come into contact with the skin (such as band-aids and adhesive tapes). However, ordinary industrial or general-purpose hot melt adhesive powder is not recommended for direct and long-term contact with the skin.
